Four lines that come before your website
We searched “dallas seo” on 18 October 2026. Three businesses sat in a map block at the top of the page. Each took up about four lines: a star rating and review count, how many years it had been in business, whether it was open, and a sentence quoted from a customer review. In each quoted sentence, the words we had typed were in bold.
Most of those lines come from details you can check today. Google says the opening date in your Business Profile may be used in some places in Search to tell customers how many years you have been in business. Only the year and month are needed, so add it if it is missing. Your hours decide whether you show as open or closed, so keep them right, including on holidays.
The quoted sentence comes from your customers, and you can't pick it or write it for them. Honest reviews that describe real jobs simply give Google more to quote.
A name that is really yours
The City of Dallas says over 62,000 businesses are based in the city. With that many names in play, it is tempting to add “Dallas” or your main service to the name on your listing. In our search, all three names contained the word “SEO”, and two also contained “Dallas”. That is fine when it is a business's real name.
Google's rule is that your profile name should reflect your real-world name, as used on your storefront, website and stationery and as known to customers. It lists service descriptions and location details among the things a name must not include, and says adding unnecessary information can get a profile suspended.
In Texas, sole proprietors and general partnerships that trade under an assumed name file a certificate with the county clerk in each county where they have a business office. So if you want a different name on Google, make it your real trading name first: file it, put it on your sign, invoices and website, and then change the listing.
Example
A Dallas roofing contractor before the spring hail
The National Weather Service office for Fort Worth and Dallas says severe weather in the Metroplex peaks in spring, and that large hail hits the Metroplex nearly every year. After a storm, homeowners need a roofer quickly, and many will judge one by the few lines in its map listing. For a roofer, local SEO in late winter would mean checking those lines: an opening date that shows how long the company has worked, spring hours that match when the phone is answered, and a listing name that matches the trucks, yard signs and invoices rather than one padded with “Dallas roofing”. On the website, a plain page about hail inspections gives the listing something useful to link to. None of this can promise a call or a place on the map.
